Shouter Baptists

Ordellia Darlington 00011164 Portfolio Entry IV at the outset, the thought of Shouter Baptist being viewed as a religion was a joke to me. At whatever point, I heard the name Shouter Baptist just a single thing rung a bell â€Å"obeah people†. There were times that I will see them in supplication and I will go across the road. All things considered, the energizing force point video went with different sources has shown me a lot on the religion, the individuals and their rituals.I had consistently expected that all the Shouter Baptists brought to the table was â€Å"catching power† by methods for shaking and talking in tongues. I had accepted that the Shouter Baptists were profoundly had. Notwithstanding, never had I realized that talking tongues is like speaking with God. Proof of this is appeared in the book of Acts. 2:1-8. Talking tongues is one of the blessings of the Holy Spirit alluded to in the Bible. It tends to be portrayed as a wonder during which the adherent communicates in dialects obscure to him/her in his/her regular life.Another angle I never comprehended was the noteworthiness of a portion of the images the Shouter Baptists every now and again use. Images, for example, the chime, lothar, incense and blossoms assume a significant job in the Shouter Baptist confidence. The ringer is utilized toward the start of the support of call individuals to love, toward the finish of the administration or as per profound directions. It is said to stir the believers’ spirits to the nearness of the Holy Spirit. I currently comprehend what is implied by the maxim â€Å"Every time a ringer rings a blessed messenger gets his wings†?The lothar is a vessel utilized in the congregation. It represents the blessed condition of man before God in adore and contains water and blossoms. The blossoms improve the congregation and represent harmony, love and euphoria, which are kept alive by the water of life. Blossoms are God’s craftsmanshi p and are utilized to adorn the raised area, focus post and corners of the congregation. It additionally speak to man’s first territory, the Garden of Eden. What I respect about the Shouter Baptists is their ability to offer back to society. They express gratefulness to God different occasions during the time taking care of the kids in their locale. For Thanksgiving, Shouter Baptists offer thanks to God for his gifts through, full gospel and supplications, singing, applauding and celebrating. The youngsters in the network are given food and tidbits. The Thanksgiving is held after extraordinary events in members’ lives, for example, achievement in an endeavor, or recuperation from a sickness. It likewise perceives God’s mercy. The Shouter Baptist confidence in expressing gratefulness is bolstered by Luke 14: 12-14 (â€Å"Then Jesus said to his host, â€Å"When you give a lunch meeting or supper, don't welcome your companions, your siblings or sisters, your family members, or your rich neighbors; in the event that you do, they may welcome you back thus you will be reimbursed. 13 But when you give a dinner, welcome poor people, the disabled, the weak, the visually impaired, 14â and you will be honored. Despite the fact that they can't reimburse you, you will be reimbursed at the restoration of the honorable. †)

Emptiness in Mahayana Buddhism

Buddhism is an orthopraxy where character originates from actualizing â€Å"correct† conduct, instead of universality where personality is found through â€Å"correct† convictions. Mahayana Buddhism, named â€Å"the Great Way† is basically a dream of what Buddhism is extremely about. Despite the fact that the saturation of Mahayana was innocuous, the status of the sutras was continually contested. From the very beginning of Buddhism, the ideas of Self/not-Self and ward emerging were unmistakable and basic. The Not-Self instructing has been considered by Buddhists to be the extraordinary forward leap of the Buddha, the revelation that hardens his prevalence over other teachers.According over the Buddha, for something to be portrayed as â€Å"Self,† it would not prompt torment, it would need to be perpetual, and furthermore it would comply with the individual of whom it is the Self. If something somehow managed to be a Self, it positively should be controlla ble and helpful for satisfaction; or if nothing else not helpful for anguish. Moreover, in thinking about the presence of a Self, he focuses on that the five conceivable contender for â€Å"Self† (the five totals) in actuality can't be the Self since they don't meet these standards. These five totals (structure, sensation, origination, aura, cognizance) are absolutely not permanent. They could be viewed as comparable to a tornado in that they emerge from specific conditions and conditions and are not extractable from nature in which they happen. Any piece of our psychophysical make-up, whatever can be ordered under one of the five gatherings, can't fit the depiction of a Self and in this way they are for the most part not Self. In light of cases of having discovered a perpetual Self, the Buddha declares that if there is at all a Self, it is just an aftereffect of the meeting up of causal conditions (subordinate start). For this situation, it couldn't be lasting, and subsequent ly couldn't be a Self.Through further investigation and understanding contemplation after the passing of the Buddha, the five totals supposedly was dissolvable into easier components. This kind of examination came to include the psychophysical totals related with creatures, however everything known to man too. These components (dharmas) are unchangeable to any further factors or sources. The Buddhist school of Sarvastivada held an authoritative differentiation between the manner in which dharmas exist as ‘primary existents’ and the way mind boggling substances (optional existents) exist basically as developments of dharmas. The name Sarvastivada itself implies â€Å"the principle that all exist,† and this school presents the thought of the own-reality of the dharma. In any case if a dharma is past, present, or future, it in any case despite everything exists. These dharmas are extreme facts. Essential existents must be the ending purpose of examination, and must n ot emerge conditionally the way individuals, tables, and seats do. Along these lines, auxiliary existents come up short on this natural presence. The Prajnaparamita is the soonest type of writing known to be explicitly Mahayana; paramita meaning flawlessness and prajna meaning wisdom. In Buddhist phrasing, to have prajna is to incorporate an understanding that separates how things really are from how things appear to be. In the abhidharma setting, prajna is utilized to decide the estimation of essential existents (dharmas), which are recognizable from calculated builds. Flawlessness of astuteness (Prajnaparamita) doesn't infer the misleading quality of what had recently been viewed as insight, yet rather its flawlessness. The flawlessness of prajna is the last, appropriate comprehension of the way things genuinely are.Mahayana rationalists felt the idea of the Abhidharma to be excessively objective and efficient. Typically, these sutras are not deliberately philosophical nor do they infer doctrinal adherence. The writings involve clear messages that are shown redundantly and can be viewed as messages that intend to encourage or exhort those in the non-Mahayana world. As we have seen from pre-Mahayana reasoning, auxiliary existents are basically ‘empty’ of essential presence, void of own-reality. In this sense, everything, for example, individuals, sand, grass, the sea, and so forth re void of Self, yet additionally of essential presence. In concurrence with these Abhidharma writings, there then should exist things that without a doubt have essential presence so as to differentiate them to optional existents that are vacant of such a quality. In any case, the Prajnaparamita sutras don't regard this hypothesis. These Mahayana sutras guarantee that totally all things have a similar status as individuals, sand, tables, and so forth since they are for the most part develops that can't be gotten a handle on. They guarantee that everything is vacant, and that everything is reasonable builds coming up short on own-existence.In the eyes of the Mahayana logicians, to guarantee that there is own-reality in a manner that underscores the how fundamental the dharmas are in the Abhidharma appears to be excessively orderly. It makes the dharmas themselves appropriate to become objects of connection. Rather, the dharmas ought to be utilized the manner in which the pontoon was utilized in the anecdote told by the Buddha in the Alagaddupama Sutra. They ought to be utilized as devices that are relinquished after use; they ought not be clung to. Enduring is the aftereffect of connection, so to handle to the dharmas is to infer suffering. One can't get joined to these things on the grounds that to append is to miss illumination. Along these lines, stopping connection includes seeing wellsprings of connection (individuals, for example) as unfilled. One can't evade connection as long as they see a complexity between essential existents and applied ex istents. In the Heart Sutra, the bodhisattva clarifies that in the wake of taking part in profound contemplation on the flawlessness of insight, bodhisattvas completely stir to a condition of complete freedom and impeccable enlightenment. The bodhisattva discloses to the inquisitive Sariputra that the flawlessness of shrewdness includes seeing that the five totals are vacant, just as the dharmas that make up these totals. Dharmas are not central; they are simply learned develops similarly as are individuals and trees. The Sutra shows that all creatures, things, and thoughts, which we experience as â€Å"real†, have no natural presence and this â€Å"reality† is simply a development of the brain. Dharmas, as well, are void and don't ossess the particular attributes that they have recently been related with. Nothing comes to be as an intrinsically existing element, and subsequently nothing can stop. Moreover, nothing is finished or deficient. The bodhisattva explicitly st ates, â€Å"form is void; vacancy is structure. Vacancy isn't other than structure, structure isn't other than void. † This is sensible in such a case that nothing at all naturally exists, things and ideas, for example, â€Å"form† and â€Å"emptiness† are very much the same. Vacancy itself is unfilled in light of the fact that it doesn't inalienably exist. The bodhisattva likewise references the 12 phases of ward beginning and the four honorable realities so as to harden that they also need innate presence and are vacant. Nothing in presence is discrete from anything. The Diamond Sutra talks monotonously about amount of legitimacy. Repeating four lines of this Sutra is outlined again and again, with the message that instructing only four lines to someone else would create a boundless measure of legitimacy. Corresponding to this legitimacy, the sutra puts a solid accentuation on giving without getting connected to any related notion. The best way to accomplish bou ndless legitimacy is to sacrificially give thusly. The Buddha discloses to Subhuti that those on the bodhisattva way ought to have this idea: â€Å"However many living creatures are included in the all out accumulation of living beings†¦I ought to carry every one of them to the last elimination in the domain of annihilation without substrate remaining. † Essentially, the Buddha is focusing on the demonstration of empowering all creatures to arrive at Nirvana-without-leftover portion and, in doing as such, outperforming the pattern of ceaseless passing and rebirth. However, for this to be cultivated, one can't harp on the idea of having helped those creatures. The Buddha proceeds to state that after he has carried every one of them to definite annihilation, no living being has been brought to elimination. That is on the grounds that to give like this uncovers the void of giving. Since these creatures are vacant of Self, while every one of them have been brought to nirvana, simultaneously nobody has been brought to nirvana. The psyche must be liberated from musings of ‘self’ rather than ‘others. ’ There ought to be no recognized â€Å"giver† or â€Å"receiver† or â€Å"gift. Such a demonstration would yield the most noteworthy legitimacy in giving. The finish of the Sutra contains the refrain â€Å"an fantasy, a drop of dew, an air pocket, a fantasy, a lightning’s flash†¦Ã¢â‚¬ so as to demonstrate the pitifulness, or the vacancy, of the world. Like the Heart Sutra, the Diamond Sutra additionally focuses on that ordinary the truth resembles a figment. Confusing expressions like â€Å"what is known as the most noteworthy educating isn't the most elevated teaching† are utilized much of the time to stress that the two thoughts are indivisible in light of the fact that they are both empty. The Buddha endeavors to help Subhuti â€Å"unlearn† the assumptions that he has about the real world and observation. The differentiation among arhats and bodhisattvas is clear; and Subhuti discovers that the bodhisattva’s empathy isn't measurable. The Diamond Sutra attests that there is nothing on the planet that is perpetual, nor is there anything that autonomously exists, in this manner everything is unfilled. An existence without connection implies a quiet life in void. This educating of vacancy was alarming for a few, since it appears to be fundamentally the same as skepticism in the manner that it supports such profound letting go.Nagar

Growing Up

Growing Up Hey you! Yeah, you youre Chris, right? And you just wrote this blog, right? Okay. Now weve got that out of the way, allow me to introduce myself. Im you from July 20, 2016 yeah, about 9 years, or 3000-some days into the future. Pretty cool, huh? Well I guess you know one thing now, you will be alive in 2016 breathing that sigh of relief, I see ;) You see, I wanted to drop in and, you know, tell you a few things about the future that you might want to know, now that the excitement of getting into MIT hasnt totally worn off yet. Whats that? You want to go play Pokemon? What version are you on? Ah, Diamond and Pearl, I see. Psh, stop wasting your time on that stupid game. Let me tell you that in the world that I come from and youll get to experience in the future youd be catching Pokemons in real life. Yup, in real life!! No stop, this doesnt mean you get to quit school since youre going to become a Pokemon trainer youll be catching them on your iPhone. Oh yeah thats right, the iPhone just came out a few months ago for you, huh? Well, heres the latest model if you want to look at it pretty nifty! Before I forget, be smart and grab some Apple stock now youll thank me in 2016 :) So what was I going to say? Oh, you dont know this yet, but youll become a doctor in internal medicine. Your days will be filled with admitting patients, writing notes, and putting in orders in the computer. It might hard to imagine, but one day youll be able to read this CT scan with ease: Hey, it sucks in the beginning, but once you get to supervise interns, it will be pretty cool :) So dont worry too much about the 8.01 test you didnt do so hot on; it doesnt matter a bit in the end! You said how was MIT? You know MIT was a wild rollercoaster ride. As you go on and pass/no record wears off, youll see that this is a place of heartbreaking defeats but at the same time, of exhilirating victories. Even now, nine years later, I havent found quite the same place like it. Youll go on to major in biology and dabble with history on the side. The best classes you take will be the ones that you signed up for on whim, and the best conversations youll have will be those that happen at three in the morning. That reminds me stay up late like youre already doing, since you wont get many opportunities for that in the future. I wake up now at 5:45 AM on most days yeah, dont make that face, I know you want to drop classes that begin before 10 AM if you can. :P Its ok to stay up till 4 AM surfing Wikipedia or finishing that new book that you just started. It wont last, so enjoy it! Go do as many cool things as you can it will be so hard to do them later get on the Charles and go sailing, take pistol for PE, and get your Pirates License while youre at it. You will go on to spend IAPs in Spain and Japan, and try to go on the Cambridge Exchange I know I always regret not having done that. Also, dont worry too much if you feel bored in Boston youll spend all your time after you leave Boston in New York, and trust me, there will be days when you miss being able to look out onto the Charles and having a public transit system that actually has enough space for all its riders. MIT will also be the hardest thing you do you know, as you go on, people will say that med school is bad, internship is bad but there will be nothing quite like MIT. People said intern year after med school is hard, but I realized during intern year, you just have to show up if you show up, you will get through the day. Youll call all the consults, see all the patients, write all the notes, finish your work at the end of the day and go home. MIT is different its a neverending beast. You will wake up covered in sweat 2 days before the final realizing that you still have very little idea on how to tackle a certain problem; you will walk out of lecture having taken a dozen pages of notes and only understanding maybe a dozen lines; you will study for a week and still be rewarded with a B-, which you may feel very relieved about ironically. The kind of training that MIT provides is tough, but its however also very rewarding, as you are constantly being pushed to your limits and dared to go further than you have gone before. Ironically, goal-setting has been something that Ive been striving to do more of since I left without the constant pressure, the onus is on you to stay ahead of the game. Dont take any day for granted its a joy to have so much free time dedicated to learning, and you ought to take advantage of that now. In college, you learn and dont get paid, but one day, youll get paid and not have much time to learn. What else? Lets see I know youre swearing off coffee now, but in a few years, youll be chugging a 16 oz. thermos daily. Yeah, yeah those early mornings in medical school and residency will get to youbut its ok, coffee isnt that bad, after all :) Also, see this picture that you put up on the blog you just wrote? 9 years from now, youll be married to Kathy 10. Youll have a great wedding, and over 1/3 of your guests 34/99 will be MIT graduates (from class of 06 to 15)!! Youll write it in your wedding vows one day shell be the best thing that happened to you at MIT :)

Revolutionary War Letter from a Patriot Free Essays

I began my journey in August under the leadership of the great General Washington after he received news that the French would join us in September. Although I was extraordinarily skeptical at first, I must admit that our former enemies have been vital to this war for independence. However, my dislike for them still holds somewhat true, being as they were always criticizing the not-as-well equipped Americans. We will write a custom essay sample on Revolutionary War: Letter from a Patriot or any similar topic only for you Order Now It seems to me that they were not here to fight for our independence, but that they were here to simply see the British lose part of their empire.I’m grateful for their help, but it irks me knowing that they were not here for the right reasons. Our regiment was stationed next to French General de Rochambeau in Rhode Island. Now I don’t know about you, but I find it quite ironic that I had to be positioned right next to the French. We then marched south in hopes that we would crush the British at Yorktown. During this march, I endured many hardships and had plenty of time to think about myself, the world, and this war. I didn’t have many friends in the army. I manly kept to myself. The French had an easier march than us, being as there always seemed to be sicker and injured people on the American side. We had such a small amount of supplies and almost no one had shoes. Morale was quite low and we had marched a very painful march. However, every night we had parties that sometimes led into the day. On September 1, 1781 we arrived in Philadelphia. I suppose British General Cornwallis was a little busy with the constant French attacks and for a second in this battle, he forgot about us. From what I had heard the French had blocked Cornwallis’s supplies and were preparing to attack. Once we heard the news we immediately celebrated (even though we had not even begun the battle). However, the French did not seem to be as jubilant as the Americans. It was then that I realized that all the French really wanted to do was win the war and go home, but that they did not think this was possible with such an inexperienced army fighting alongside them. Finally, we arrived at Yorktown on September 28. After we arrived, General Washington wasted no time in commanding us to build trenches. Our trenches took a lot of time to build but in the end it was well worth it. Mother, if you hadn’t already heard this, we won the battle! It was an easy defeat thanks to the French. We launched our attacks on October 9 and it ended on October 19. It was a ten day war that could have been merely two or three days long if it hadn’t been for Cornwallis’s tubborn hold. He seemed to be expecting to have reinforcements from General Clinton but, as you guessed they never came. In this battle I earned a newfound respect for the French. They do not always act according to our morals, but they do keep their word. They were a huge part of the Battle of Yorktown and for this, I will forever be grateful. My devotion to the American army has brought on a new sense of pride from within. I have a feeling that this nation will be great someday. Young Women & Breast Cancer

Question: Discuss about the Young Women Breast Cancer. Answer: Introduction Among young women, breast cancer occurrences are quite common. In the US, less than 5% of breast cancer women patients fall under the age group of 40. Detection of breast cancer is difficult. Generally, in young women the tissues in the breast are denser than in older women. SO, by the time the lump is big enough to be detected it is delayed (Komen, 2001). One of the very effective and first steps taken by medical practitioners is surgery. The idea is to remove the cancer ingrained in the breast tissue so the chances of its revival are erased. However, this also signifies one is left with one breast and an entire life of new adjustments to make. Women, who have gone through mastectomy, which is removal of the breast, affected with cancer finds it very difficult to wear clothing especially innerwear that can hide the fact. One such brand named Queen Zaria, has made a great effort to provide bras customized for women affected with breast cancer. It is the brainchild of Kamya, who is 24, a Commercial Pilot and herself a survivor of breast cancer. When she underwent surgery along with her own discomforts the biggest one was finding a proper bra. So, she started this endeavor to help other women fight post surgery psychological trauma by providing effective and gorgeous lingerie to them (Anonymous) . This report is to ascertain how or what services Queen Zaria will offer, how the brand can use Word of Mouth and move ahead spreading awareness, where digital methods of marketing will lack in such a sector and how using traditional methods of marketing this niche market can be utilized to its maximum. The brand is recently opening in the Melbourne and Auckland market and wants to study the marketing niche to be followed for this area. Services that should be offered by Queen Zaria brand Kamyas Queen Zaria line of breast cancer survivor womens innerwear is essentially comfortable and an elegant range of lingerie. All the pieces are made carefully with thorough research made by team. Neither the lingerie rubs with the scars, but beautifully hides them for a better presentation. The brand believes in empowering women to go beyond any obstacles in life and be the best at what they are good at (Abrahams, 2016). Here are some of the services outlined by the brand that they will offer:- a) Comfort beyond imagination b) Elegancy in style c) Reasonable but chic d) 24 by 7 support e) Quality products Marketing by Word of Mouth Steps taken by Queen Zaria to promote using Word of Mouth are worth mentioning. Such kind of marketing has today attracted a great deal of attention of the consumers (Trusov, 2009). When hundreds of people start talking about your product and service it transforms the fate of the firm. A small silly moment, a warm smile or a comfortable hand shake can even bring a smile in a woman who has just survived breast cancer. Such is the impact of the disease that it gives everyone a near death realization. Hence, the best way to spread awareness about the Queen Zaria lingerie line, Kamya chose Word of Mouth at the point of contact. For building it up she focused on the following areas:- Step 1 Find people The best way is to find people who have survived such cancer type and start placing benefits and features of the product in those communities. So, finding out bloggers, influencers, groups, survivor and people is the first step. Step 2 Discuss topics Start conversations about the disease in related forums and communities. Here one can place offers and advantageous about the product itself. Step 3 Medium Spread the message here that where one will find such products. You can use a bit of digital marketing, email marketing here to spread the news. Simple spreading coupons, handouts or brochures can further help spread the word. Step 4 Joining conversations This is the crucial part where you talk and interact and erase all doubts of the potential customer about the product. Step 5 Track It is important to measure everything people are saying. Based on these feedbacks products can be made better (Sernovitz, 20150. Digital Marketing Backfires A realization, that to spread news about a product like Queen Zaria range of lingerie for breast cancer survivors, digital medium will not help in all its sectors. For example, one very common way of digital marketing is social media. Well, we agree to that. But, thinking from the point of view of the very woman who has recently underwent a surgery showing herself out there in the world will be tormenting. So, one cannot expect a lot of response coming from social media. Another way of using digital marketing is to send push notifications to people having the mobile app for the product, if they have. Well, that would also backfire. People who are into marketing must never ignore the influence of their marketing on the customer's experience (Waxer, 2015) People want to forget unfortunate events like going through cancer treatment. Sending push notifications will be insensitive and a great reminder to them about their disease. No activity that can stir negative emotions in the mind of the cancer survivors must be used for marketing. Digital marketing methods like sharing personal life experiences and how one has been benefitted by the product will also not work out properly due to the sheer privacy of the matter. Sometimes when one expects customers to gain trust certain steps can accidentally raise distrust and discomfort (Cugelman, 2016) New out of the box marketing techniques Queen Zaria wants to make their presence strong in their recently opened outlets in Melbourne and Auckland. The best part about the brand is that it is catering to niche public and not to general one. Hence, one can think of some out of the box ideas. A very common method will be communicating and partnering with the hospitals and clinics where breast cancer surgery is being done. When a patient comes to the hospital with the hope of survival they are easy to go away with the surgery without second thoughts. As it is a matter of their own life. However, no one wants to be physically less than others. If the product is recommended by the hospital along with their treatment package then it gives genuinity, reliability and positivity to the patient. When she loses something she is given something in return. Hence, the brand must make sure the quality of product is 100% at par with the industry standards and then recommend it to the hospital. So, basically giving these cancer surviving women exactly what they need one can do marketing of the product inherently(McBride, 2015) One another way of marketing is traditional method like advertisements, web media or the print media. One can take part in events and forum meets spreading awareness of cancer. And then carefully placing the brand in the visibility of people who came in these events. Remember not everyone out there is willing to disclose that they have undergone a breast removal surgery due to cancer. It is indeed a fun but challenging work (Budge, 2016) Lingerie for women who has survived breast cancer can really act as a boost of confidence. Women always love to look beautiful no matter what happens. It is just the way they think and that can never be changed perhaps. No disease or sickness can bog down the spirit of a woman who wants to do something in her life. So, the best gift that can be given to her is beauty itself. These comfortable, cute and functional bras can lift up their spirits like never before (Wilbur,2015) References Komen, S. Kone the Monospace Launch in Germany free essay sample

The German low-rise building market was divided, as in other European countries, in geared traction technology (PU and PT), and hydraulic technology (PH) that accounted for 8% and 92% respectively. KONE’s new product, MonoSpace, was mainly characterized for its new technology, the EcoDisc, which provided a more comfort ride, did not need for a machine room, and reduced energy consumption. Before the launch of MonoSpace in Germany, it was test marketed in France, United Kingdom (U. K. ) and The Netherlands. In the latest, MonoSpace was a complete success. It gave higher profits and 62% of the low-raise market (up from 52%). But in France only 40 units were sold of the 300 expected and in U. K. no units were sold during the first month after launch. Results that gave Hatala cause for concern. Finally, a pre-launch had been done: During November 1995, 4 PH customers converted their orders to MonoSpace and from January to June 1996, 30 MonoSpace elevators where arranged to be installed. We will write a custom essay sample on Kone: the Monospace Launch in Germany or any similar topic specifically for you Do Not WasteYour Time HIRE WRITER Only 13.90 / page All of them were asked to â€Å"keep quiet about the technology†. Decision to be made: Since the pricing and positioning strategy of MonoSpace will have a significant impact in KONE’s European and global image, Hatala has to decide with extreme caution each one of them. We will analyze price in deep. Alternatives: To set a price we have two alternatives, (1) to follow the indications at KONE’s Brussels headquarters: â€Å"to set prices above existing prices if KONE held less than 15% market share and in line with existing price levels if KONE otherwise† or (2) to set their own price according to the German market. Quantitative Let’s analyze each country individually. In France, the price was FF 30,000 over the price listed for a PT. This was done because it was expected to have a FF 5,000 cost reduction in energy and in consequence, be able to recover the investment in just six years. Nevertheless, it seems that this short-term gain was not enough to thrill the French market. As the market share in U. K. was above 15%, the price was to be kept in line with the most expensive geared traction. However, the PT only entailed 10% of the low-rise market and its price was almost the double than PH price, plus U. K. ontractors’ concern of leaving out the machine room for fear of a price gouging from KONE as being the only non-machine-room provider; lead to the absence of demand for the MonoSpace. On the contrary, in The Netherlands, PT and PU counted for 60% to 70% of the sales and as the in-line price for MonoSpace was set in only DG1,000 more than the most expensive geared traction elevator, allowed more customers to give a chance to this new te chnology, plus the fact that KONE was the market share leader by far. 1Most of the data is from Table D and page 6. Data from page 4. 3Data from Table C and Table E. 1Most of the data is from Table D and page 6. 2Data from page 4. 3Data from Table C and Table E. In conclusion, the suggestion given from Brussel’s managers left out the unique characteristics of each of the countries. Therefore for the case of Germany, we should take into consideration the fact that 92% of the low-rise elevators sales come from the hydraulic technology and only 2% come from the most expensive geared traction system, and that even the market share of KONE in this country is only 9. %, maybe the price should not be set above the existing ones. Qualitative: KONE Aufzug had very well identified their customers: (1) property developers –concerned mainly with the overall cost and the investment value of their properties, made the decision of which elevator to buy, 10% of the times. (2) General contractors –who sought for the more competitive offer through a competitive bidding process, made the decision 50% of the times, and (3) architects –that were more worried about the cosmetic options of the elevators. They were the ones in charge of the decision 40% of the times. Under these customers, we can see that for the general contractors, a low price, closer to the PH’s one would be more attractive. However, for the architect, it seems that the price may not be a real obstacle because they care more about the looks of the building rather than the final price of it. Recommendation amp; Rationale: After analyzing the data both quantitative and qualitatively, we have concluded that a price between both technologies would be better to introduce the MonoSpace into the German market. As we could see in the British market, a price that is more than double of the most inexpensive elevator won’t create enough interest to even ask about this new product, especially if the vast majority of the market prefers the lower price elevator. Thanks to the French’s experience, we can see that customers are not really interesting in investing in a technology that has not really been proved in the market, even when it promises a more comfortable ride, a cost reduction in energy, and the elimination of machine rooms and potential fire and environmental hazards. Finally, in the unique case that The Netherland presented, we can conclude that customers are willing to try something new and with many improvements for a small price increase. If we understand that all the elevators were priced very similarly and the market preferred the geared traction system instead of the hydraulic, we can understand why the price worked. Nevertheless, German market is a hybrid of all previous. A 92% of the lo-rise elevator sales come from the PH, leaving only 6% for PT and 2% for PU. We see that the price for the PU is DM 20,000 more than the PH. Hence, we can assume that even though the hydraulic system provided lower ride comfort and lower speed than the geared traction elevators, Germans are not willing to pay that difference to improve their experience. (Neither the British nor the French did). So a price closer to DM 60,000 of the PH would bring the most possibilities to have a success in the MonoSpace. To complete our discussion, we think that after setting the right price, it is of vital importance to generate a marketing kit that highlights the qualities of MonoSpace. It is highly recommended to create a communication strategy able to reach everyone involved in the process of buying the elevator, whereas is the final consumer or the architect that just has a building in mind. It is also important to create conscience of the MonoSpace so they have it in consideration for all upcoming projects. [ 1 ]. KONE: The MonoSpace Launch in Germany. Narayandas, D. and Swartz, G. Sentencing Provisions of the Criminal Justice Act of 2003 Article

Sentencing Provisions of the Criminal Justice Act of 2003 - Article Example As a result, there has been considerable political input into the criminal justice process, notably through sentencing guidelines, in response to pressure from the public fuelled by high levels of media attention to crime. In striving to achieve the balance between the need to control crime and the need to ensure that the rights of individuals are preserved to uphold the legal principle that every criminal suspect is innocent until proven guilty, sentencing guidelines in the Criminal Justice Act of 2003 may need to be improved upon, because they may not necessarily be serving the interests of justice in every instance. The criminal justice system may be analyzed in the context of two different models: (a) the due process model and (b) the crime control model, both of which impact differently upon the manner in which criminals are punished under the system1. The focus of the due process model is upon the individual citizen, which produces a corresponding emphasis on the need to reduce the powers of officials such as the police so that they do not abuse their position through their widespread use of their coercive powers over individuals who are suspects in any crime. As a result, at every stage of the criminal justice process, there must be formal safeguards established in order to protect the rights of those suspected of committing a crime. The crime control model on other hand adopts a different view and control of criminal conduct is the ultimate objective to be achieved. The assumption under this system is that society must operate as efficiently as possible in order to achieve the goal of crime control. Police officers and Prosecutors are viewed as the ideal agents to screen out those who are innocent rather than relying upon court proceedings to achieve the same goal, or allowing a higher degree of importance to the rights of suspects to challenge the criminal justice process if it is found to be oppressive. The crime control model therefore allows for extra judicial proceedings to also be incorporated, such as entering guilty pleas from defendants in order to speed up the trial process. Saunders and Young offer the view that while many of the provisions in several criminal justice Acts including PACE and the CJA 2003 would appear to reflect a due process model, in terms of actual practice, the system appears to function on the basis of several of the characteristics of the crime control model. Where the question of stop and search powers are concerned for example, they state: "Stop and search in its operation corresponds far more closely to the crime control model than the due process model to which the law is purportedly orientated."2 The crime control model would also be centered upon a punitive model of justice, where criminals are punished for their crimes and may serve to satisfy the need for punishment raised by public perception about the extent of heinousness of a crime. The due process model on the other hand, would adopt a more restorative form of justice, where harm and redress are emphasized, so that there is a greater focus upon rehabilitating offender s and ensuring that they

Organizational culture is very critical to the success of the change process. As a result, when the management fails to incorporate the organization values and believes, they end up failing to implement changes. One of the major success pillars of change is the understanding and spelling out of the impact of the change process on the people (Burke, 2010). This enables the management to engage all the affected personnel. Effective leadership during the change process provides a base for the change process (Burke, 2010). With the variety in their workforce there is a variety of ideas and concepts, which can be beneficial for the survival in the global environment. David Bernick , a senior Vice president and General counsel is university of Chicago, law graduate, Andrà © Calantzopoulos , chief operating officer ,Kevin Click, chief information officer and Doug Dean, research and development make the strong management team of the company. Leading Markets: The Company boasts of leading 11 markets out of the top 30 international markets. That is equivalent to occupying 33% of total top market shares. This is one of the strength of the company. These are the basic strengths of the company, a strong financial condition with plummeting profits, well established brand names of the product, skilled, well trained and diverse work force, a strong leading management team and the huge share in top international markets. Weaknesses: As far as a weakness of the company is concerned the litigations seem to be the only weakness. Government policy on the promotion and sale of tobacco related product stops the company from aggressive marketing and promotion of its products. It is the weakness of the company. Opportunity: Increasing tobacco market: Although anti tobacco activists are raising their voices against the production and distribution of tobacco, the tobacco market is still lucrative. It raises billions of pounds as revenue to the government as well as the producers. Advantage of globalization: Globalization offers the company an opportunity to take an advantage of cheap labour cost and cheap production cost offered by third world countries. Factories established in China, Nepal offers the company cheap production of its products hence huge profits. Mergers and collaborations: The Company tied its knot with Altria and it recently announced its partnership with fortune Tobacco Corporation. These kinds of mergers and collaboration offer the company an opportunity to expand its market share. Threats: Anti Tobacco activists: The Company has remained a most controversial company because anti tobacco activists have always criticized the tobacco company for being responsible to the death resulting from smoking. For example, activists in Philippines raised their voices against the merger of fortune Tobacco Corporation with Philip Morris. They have feared this merger can draw more smokers in Philippines. (http://www.abs-cbnnews.com/business/02/25/10/anti-tobacco-group-expects-intensified-marketing-philip-morris-deal 25/03/2010) Government legislations: The governments rule of banning the sales of tobacco related products to people below certain age limits and other rules related to smoking ban on public places can reduce the sales of tobacco. For example research in UK shows that number of smokers has reduced after smoking ban in public places and after the age limit for the sale of tobacco has been set. Public Awareness: People are more aware about the consequences of tobacco consumption because of the advertisement of anti tobacco activists. This has resulted in the reduction of sales in many markets. Strength and weaknesses are considered as internal factors whereas opportunities and threats are considered as External factors. Basically strengths and weaknesses of an organization are related to people, resources, innovation and ideas, marketing, operation and finance, whereas opportunities and threat are associated to the factors that organizations find hard to control sometimes. They are political, economic, social, technological, legal and environmental environment in which the organization exists. Now lets examine the external factors of Philip Morris International. Political environment: (http://www.executivehm.com/media/media-news/infographics/091117-EHM-Smoking.png, on 25th April 2010) The details above show that by the year 2009 there are 44 countries with active smoking ban. The data also shows that more than 1 billion people are protected by smoke free laws. These laws mean reduction of sales for the company. The company can either promote its products in these markets or have their sales restricted by severe laws. For example, they do not allow people below 18 to buy cigarettes in England and Wales. They have increased the age limit from 16 1st of October 2007. Politicians are always trying to seek public favour and by introducing laws like smoking ban and binge drinking ban or increasing tax for products like these they are trying to catch public sentiment. These kind of political activities are although favourable to general public, they are not at all favourable for a company like Philip Morris, whose revenues are based on the sales of its tobacco related products. Economical: There is not much difference to Philip Morris International due to the recession. Its profits did not plummet heavily even though the world was hit by economic downturn. Following table show its financial data. (in millions of dollars except per share data)   Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚   2009   Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚   2008 %  Change   Net revenues   $62,080   Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  $63,640   Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  (2.5)% Cost of sales   Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  9,022   Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚   9,328   Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  (3.3)  Ã‚   Excise taxes on products     Ã‚   37,045   Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  37,935   Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚   (2.3) Gross profit   Ã‚   16,013   Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚   16,377   Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚   (2.2)   Operating income     Ã‚   10,040   Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚   10,248   Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  (  2.0) Net earnings     Ã‚  Ã‚     6,342   Ã‚  Ã‚     Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚   6,890   Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚   (8.0) Basic earnings per share   Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  3.25   Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚      3.32   Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚   (2.1) Diluted earnings per share Source: Philip Morris Webpage Sociological: Being criticized as a main contributor of smoking related deaths in the World, Philip Morris International has to do a lot to cope up with the sociological issues. Therefore their social responsibility activities are directed to these five areas of society, extreme poverty and hunger, environmental sustainability and living conditions in rural communities, domestic violence, and disaster relief. The company has spent billions of pounds for charity purpose to restore its tarnished image. Legal: Philip Morris had to suffer heavy loss due to several legal proceeding that it had to go through as people blamed of killing people. It has a history of being sued by people, distributors or companies. For example, 16 wholesalers filed legal action in a federal court in Tennessee claiming that Philip Morriss wholesale leaders program 2003 constitutes price discrimination and attempts to monopolize. (Financial Times of London, 8th July 2003.) To cope up with these kinds of legal issues, the company has its own legal department that deals with all the legal issues associated with the company. Environmental: Environment is a hot topic in present day world. The problem of thinning of ozone layer or the global warming draws the attention of each and every organization. Most of the organizations have designed their social responsibility programme associating themselves with the environmental issues. Philip Morris international too has done the same. They have set up performance goals for their energy use, water use, and waste water discharge, waste to be sent to landfills and waste to be recycled. The following table show their goals. Source: Philip Morris website can be accessed at http://www.pmusa.com/en/cms/Responsibility/Reducing/Reducing_Our_Environmental_Impact/default.aspx, on 26th March 2010. Competitive analysis using Porters 5 Forces model. Michael E. Porter of Harvard Business School developed a framework for the industry analysis and business strategy development. According to him an attractive industry has all the forces he has developed works for the overall profitability of the industry. The five forces of Porter are, Competitive rivalry Threat of substitute products Threat of new entrants Bargaining power of customers Bargaining power of suppliers In case of Philip Morris, he too has competitive rivalry. He occupies 15.6 percent of the total market share. The rest is occupied by his competitors. It is for the same reason, Philip Morris is focussed on promoting new products. To beat its competitors, it has developed a strong social responsibility plan along with modification of its products. The launch of smoke free cigarettes can be considered as a product of competitive rivalry. Threat of substitute products: Philip Morris is quite free from the threat of substitute products. It has always maintained the standard of its products and priced them reasonably. This has lessened the chances of acceptance for the substitute products that are available in the market. Threat of new entrants: Philip Morris is famous for its cigarettes. No one in the world is unaware about Marlboro. It is a reputed brand name in the field of tobacco industry. But a reputed brand gives Philip Morris an advantage. It is almost free from the threat of new entrants. The reason for this is, cigarette smokers have a strong loyalty to their brands. So, although there is a constant arrival of new products, they do not affect the market share of Philip Morris as it has endorsed its product with heavy promotions and established all of its products as a Brand. Bargaining power of the customer: Bargaining power of the customer does not seem to affect the company. The reason behind it is, the perceived value of Philip Morris products is quite high because they are heavily promoted through media. They have a brand image and are free from the bargaining power of the customer. Moreover most of the customers of tobacco trade are loyal to the products they are used to, and are ready to pay whatever amount of money they are asked to pay. So Bargaining power of the customers doesnt seem to affect the company. Bargaining Power of Suppliers: Bargaining power of supplier affects every company. Philip Morris too is affected by it as it follows strict rules concerned with Fair trade. Moreover it has launched special benefit package to its suppliers. It helps the children of its tobacco supplier with education facilities and other general benefits. It is doing this just to reduce the effects of bargaining power of its supplier. Conclusions: Whatever progress the company made is not just a coincidence. The company did not lose much of its profits even in the economic downturn. The reason behind this can be summarised as the proper knowledge of the strength and weaknesses of the company and summoning all pertaining questions related to its external environment. Its commitment to follow all legal requirements of the government, introducing chewable tobacco instead of smoking ones, commitment to environmental conservations and billions of pounds spent on charitable purposes are activities to keep the external environment favourable for the company. Task 2 Phillip Morris and global political change: Any multinational company that has operations throughout the world has to acclimatize themselves with the political scenario of the concerned country. Politics is stable only in few countries that too limited to the few developed countries. Moreover, as Philip Morris is concerned with producing tobacco related products, it is affected by any kind of political change that occurs in the country. By global political change we understand the political changes that occurred in the world. For example, the First World War, when ended in 1919 brought a lot of changes in the world. Similarly the end of Second World War too brought a lot of changes. One of the biggest changes was the start of cold war between the USA and the Soviet Union. The cold war divided the world into two halves, the capitalists and the socialists. Socialists denied the products of capitalist world to enter their countries, whereas the same thing applied to the capitalists world. Philip Morris thus could not expand his business to Russia and other socialist countries until the cold war was about to end. Philip Morris was able to penetrate the Russian market in 1977 when the socialist country was about to accept some change. Similarly, global terrorism has also affected the policy and decision making of the company as tobacco can be smuggled to developed countries where they have higher prices from the least developed or developing countries. It is said that terrorist have sometimes made tobacco as one of the source of funding to backup their activities. Philip Morris thus has set strict restrictions so as it products are not smuggled. Moreover its factories located in different part of the world restrict its products from being smuggled as they have their own identification number on them. Recession that recently occurred in the world can be the after-effects of the political upheavals in the world. Or economic activities and political change have interdependence. So recession in a way can be seen as an effect of wrong political decisions in terms of economic activities. Philip Morris dealt with it quite perfectly. According to statistics, ongoing earnings of Philip Morris rose by 11% as it coaxed solid grains in its food business and continued to find new market for its cigarette. (http://www.thestreet.com/storycomments/10007704/1/philip-morris-ignores-recession.html, on 27th March 2010) Question that present days political leaders are raising is the phenomenon of climate change. Global warming is a big problem and politicians throughout the world are trying to solve it out through joint efforts. All the countries are imposing their own kind of rules and regulations to reduce carbon emission and help in the reduction of global warming. Philip Morris can help in the reduction of carbon emission by investing in third world developing countries for example in the generation of electricity, or other sources of energy which can reduce deforestation and emission of carbon dioxide in the air.

CEO of Ventura Electronics Essay

Financial statement analysis is done by every successful corporation, as your team at Ventura Electronics very well knows. â€Å"Comparisons within a company are often useful to detect changes in financial relationships and significant trends† (Kimmel, Weygandt, and Keiso p. 653). Financial statement analysis is done by horizontal analysis, vertical analysis, and ratio analysis. â€Å"Horizontal analysis, also known as trend analysis, is a technique for evaluating a series of financial statement data over a period of time (Kimmel, Weygandt, and Keiso p. 54). If Ventura Electronics is interested in determining any increase or decrease in, for example, net sales (as an amount or percentage) than horizontal analysis are appropriate. Vertical analysis analyzes more specific data on the financial statement. â€Å"Vertical analysis, also called common-size analysis, is a technique for evaluating financial statement data that expresses each item in a financial statement as a percen t of a base amount†(Kimmel, Weygandt, and Keiso p. 656). Ventura Electronics can not only analyze the relative size of each category on the financial statement, but can also see the percentage change in the individual asset, liability, and stockholders’ equity. Ventura Electronic can also use this analysis when comparing its financial statements to the competition. The last tool commonly used for financial statement analysis is ratio analysis. These ratios are useful in evaluating the financial health and performance of a company. In ratio analysis we use three different ratios; liquidity ratios, solvency ratios, and profitability ratios. Liquidity ratios are important because it evaluates the short-term ability of a business to pay their obligations as well as meet their unexpected cash flow needs. When Ventura Electronics wants to measure the ability of the company to survive over a long period of time then solvency ratios are appropriate. Profitability ratios evaluate the income of the business or their operating success over a given period of time. Ventura Electronics would find this ratio very important in analyzing the company’s income and to evaluate the ability for the business to obtain debt and equity financing, its liquidity position, and its ability to grow. As CEO, this ratio would be useful when determining the managements operating effectiveness. It is very important for Ventura Electronics to provide â€Å"full and transparent information that will not confuse or mislead users of the financial statements† (Kimmel, Weygandt, and Keiso p. 61) this is called quality of earnings. When Ventura Electronics performs a financial statement analysis to evaluate the financial performance of the company using the methods above, it is important to maintain a high quality of earnings. Factors that affect quality of earnings are; alternative accounting methods, pro forma income, improper recognition, and price-earnings ratio. Though financial statement analysis is important for Ventura Electronics, it also has its limitations  The limitation of financial statement analysis occurs with ratio analysis. Though this analysis is very useful to the company in analyzing internal factors, Ventura Electronics cannot compare ratios to their competitors accurately. Differences in accounting methods limit ratio analysis in comparing companies. As the CEO you understand the importance of knowing where the company stands as compared to its competitors. Ratio analysis also limits Ventura Electronics to analyze the definite future of the organization. My Ideal Partner Essay

There are many things I look for in a relationship and in a partner, loyalty and respect being at the top. A relationship is based completely on loyalty and the trust that you must have in your partner. I would never want my partner to make me feel like I was a second choice or not good enough for them, just as much as I would not want my partner to feel that way. Loyalty is about support and allegiance, my partner needs to support my decisions and my goals one-hundred percent. Respect is to admire your partner’’s abilities and achievements and to never put them down. A relationship is two sided and must stay balanced for it to be healthy and functioning. I plan on working at a job I love and being very successful when I grow up, I hope the same for my husband. If my husband were more successful than me it wouldn’t bother me in the slightest and if it were the opposite I would not want a partner that felt threatened or second best. I could not be with someone that didn’t aspire to achieve great things in life. Maintaining a healthy lifestyle is also very important that is why I want a partner that motivates me to stay fit and to eat healthy. I do not want a husband that is lazy and content with whatever is given to him. We will strive together to be active and be able to live a long and happy life. Being fit is important to me because I love to travel and to explore and go on adventures, I need a partner that also enjoys these things. Wanting to travel to many different countries and explore new things is something my ideal partner would definitely need to be interested in. I want kids and my partner must too. Couples often get into serious relationships without knowing what the other person might want in the future. My ideal partner would want to live the same life that I do. That is why it is important that I marry someone that is interested in having at least two kids, I want to be able to start a family of my own. Finally my partner must be attractive. Although physical attraction is not what to base a relationship on it, it can’t hurt. Having an attractive partner can only be beneficial, it can boost confidence and make you more compelled to enjoy the time you spend together. I would like to marry someone that I enjoy looking at everyday. I want my husband to be  tall and to be muscular, who could argue that? Ha. In conclusion my ideal partner would be a combination of many different qualities. It is someone that I can trust and feel I can confide anything to. It is someone that respects me, and my aspirations. It is someone that wants to travel the world and see new things. It is someone that wants kids and to have a family. It is someone that is physically attractive and fit. My ideal partner will treat me as his equal.
